San Luis Rey Equine Hospital is currently inviting applications for a 1-year fellowship in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, with the potential to transition into a private practice residency in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. This fellowship provides engagement with a high-volume referral hospital dealing with a diverse range of cases. Participants will gain expertise in lameness evaluations, imaging techniques (including radiology, ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging), innovative therapies (such as orthobiologic and regenerative medicine), advanced diagnostics (including over-ground endoscopy and exercising electrocardiography), and rehabilitation methods (including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, underwater treadmill, saltwater spa, laser therapy, shockwave, and functional electrostimulation). Our cases cover all equestrian disciplines with Hunter/Jumper and Racing highly represented, followed by Dressage, Eventing, Western Performance, Endurance etc.

The fellow will engage in teaching duties for interns and veterinary students. They will also assist in case management of lameness, sports medicine, surgery, and rehabilitation cases, as well as some internal medicine and emergency cases. Responsibilities include clinical case management (hospital and field, assisting in overseeing rehabilitation patients, and minimal equine emergency duties. The fellow will attend hospital rounds daily, rehabilitation center rounds weekly, journal club weekly, and sports medicine topics/journal club weekly.
