Ocean State Equine Associates located in Rhode Island is an ambulatory practice with a growing hospital case load. We are looking for two equine veterinary interns for 2022-2023. There are six full time veterinarians to learn from at OSEA including a board certified surgeon and equine internal medicine specialist. OSEA serves a diverse population of patients, ranging from the competitive sport horse to the beloved pet. We provide ambulatory service to all of Rhode Island, eastern Connecticut and the surrounding Massachusetts areas. As one of the largest practices in southern New England, we provide ambulatory, outpatient and surgical services for approximately 5,000 cases per year. Our mission at Ocean State Equine Associates is to provide high quality veterinary medicine care to our equine patients. This care will always be provided with respect and compassion for both out patients and their owners. Above all, we will hold ourselves to the highest ethical and professional standards.
Philosophy of Internship: Our goal is to provide an intern with a well-rounded experience, using a hands-on approach. Mentoring is focused not only on clinical skills but also on client communication. Upon completion of the internship, candidates should be proficient in most aspects of equine medicine. the internship includes weekly journal club and imaging rounds as well as monthly wet labs.

Internship Duties: During the day, the intern will spend an equal amount of time with all of the doctors. The intern may be expected to address daytime emergencies as needed, perform anesthesia, assist with surgeries, and care for hospitalized/in -house patients.

Intern has one long weekend off a month and 1-2 weekdays off a month
Terms of Employment: 1 position currently open for June 1, 2021 – May 31 2022. 2 positions open for June 1, 2022-May 31 2023. Dates maybe negotiable.
Housing and work vehicle provided. License and membership fees paid. Continuing education stipend and time off provided. Paid vacation time. Intern gets a percentage of on call emergency fees.
