Polaris Equine, based in beautiful Pittsboro, NC, is seeking an associate to join their awesome 2 doctor team (you would be #3!). Owner is a 2011 MSU grad; associate is a 2019 CSU grad. Current 3rd associate (myself) is sad to be leaving clinical practice for family reasons, but let me tell you about this unicorn!
To start, the work week is 4 days, every week, with three-day weekends when you are not on call. Weekday on-call and weekend rotations are split evenly between all doctors, as are major holidays. Benefits include healthcare (including dental), generous PTO package, paid parental leave, CE stipend, licensure coverage, liability insurance, and professional organization dues. Salary is commensurate with experience but guaranteed to be competitive, paid as a monthly lump sum. Experience would be ideal but new graduates are encouraged to apply. Mentorship is available regardless of your level of experience.
The practice has all of the bells and whistles equipment-wise. Each associate has their own SUV (heated seats!) with gas card, so no sharing is required! You’ll be accompanied by a fabulous technician (we have several) and there is an option to bring in a budget/sad case for medical management at the family farm if needed (we’re all big softies at heart).
Caseload is approximately 80/20 split with equine the primary focus, while other species include those found on hobby farms (including the random zebra or camel ;) but not including cats or dogs. Owner loves surgery and is very supportive and encouraging to try new techniques, and the associate is keen on repro and internal med. Our clients are lovely and mostly self-sufficient so emergency call is usually not crazy. We see non-client emergencies when able to but charge appropriately.
The town of Pittsboro is central to pretty much anywhere you could want to go in North Carolina! The coast and the mountains are 2-3 hours each direction, and there are lakes and rivers everywhere in-between. Four major cities are just a short drive if you need more excitement in your life!
Polaris Equine is more than just a job- employees are treated like family! The business advisor (aka dad) will bring you garden fresh veggies, always stocks the fridge with water and caffeinated beverages, and loves to share stories over a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the pond. We sing goofy songs in the car and try to make it to happy hour together once a month. If you’re looking for a practice that does work-life balance correctly, please email your resume to Polaris.equine@gmail.com. The associate will be at AAEP for meet and greet/interview, and both the owner & I are happy to chat further with anyone over the phone as well!
