Comstock Equine Hospital is seeking a full-time associate veterinarian for our busy 6 doctor large animal practice. Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains, 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe, the area offers a wide variety of year-round activities including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking and kayaking to name a few. The Reno urban scene has much to offer, with excellent dining, concerts, night life and more.
Established in 1971, our practice, along with our sister practice Great Basin Equine Hospital in Gardnerville, Nevada, serves as a referral facility for the Western Nevada region.
Duties would include general equine practice, preventative medicine, dentistry, lameness, emergency medicine and some small ruminant work. Caseload is roughly 50/50 ambulatory vs. in hospital. Veterinary staff includes a board certified surgeon (an owner), a board qualified internal medicine associate, three general practice associates, two owner veterinarians and an internship program with two interns this year. Support staff includes five licensed veterinary technicians, multiple assistants and an excellent reception staff. A four day work week is optional. Emergency call is shared, with one weeknight per week, one weekend on call and one weekend as back-up each month. Our work environment is highly collaborative, with weekly doctor rounds, daily patient rounds and open communication with all our team members.
Compensation consists of a competitive base salary plus production. Benefits include health insurance, dental and vision insurance, professional liability insurance, license fees, membership dues for AVMA, AAEP, Nevada VMA, a qualified retirement plan with match, as well as a continuing education allowance. Vacation starts at 10 days per year with an additional day added each year of service up to 20 days earned annually.
