Ocean State Equine is a 6-doctor practice in Rhode Island. We provide all general practice services including: wellness, dentistry, reproduction, medicine, and have a heavy lameness caseload. We are well equipped with DR, ultrasound, shockwave, PRP, IRAP, endoscope, and gastroscope. The practice serves a wide range of patients and clientele; we see everything from beloved backyard companions to competitive sport horses. Our caseload is predominantly ambulatory, however, our facility includes an indoor arena, climate-controlled treatment areas, stocks, and stalls for in-house cases.
We have a close-knit, collaborative team invested in the success of our interns. We hold routine wet labs to develop clinical skills, as well as weekly journal club and imaging rounds. For the first 3 months of the internship, interns will be accompanied on all calls by a senior associate for hands-on mentorship. For the remainder of the internship, interns are on call with a “back up” doctor available to assist them over the phone or in person as needed. During the regularly scheduled day, interns will ride with another doctor at the practice to participate in routine appointments. If needed, interns may also be asked to assist with daytime emergencies. Interns live in housing on-site and are responsible for after-hours patient care on a rotating basis. Interns are also involved in the in-patient reproduction services.
Interns are provided with housing on-site, health insurance, compensation for RI/CT/MA veterinary licenses, CE stipend, paid vacation days, AAEP membership dues, vehicle for work use, and a portion of the emergency fee for after-hours calls seen independently. Interns have 1 long weekend off per month and 1 week day off following weekends on-call.
Pre-requisites for application: DVM degree or equivalent, resume, letter of intent, veterinary school transcript, completion of National Board licensing by the end of the academic year, 3 letters of recommendation, eligibility to drive a motor vehicle. Externship is encouraged but not required.
Terms of Employment: 2 positions available for June 1, 2023-May 31, 2024. Dates may be negotiable.
