3H Equine Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Services was established in 1997 and quickly rose to the top of veterinary practices in the area. Starting the internship program in 2005, we have had numerous interns successfully complete our program and gone to practice high quality medicine across the country. We typically offer 1-2 internships a year. We are a 6-doctor practice and our internship focuses on deep mentorship for optimal medical and professional growth. The internship positions are intended to provide each intern with the foundation they need to confidently enter private practice. We enjoy the opportunity to hand pick our next superstar associates right from internship program so there is always potential for extended employment.
Our interns participate in ambulatory services as well as care of hospital patients, emergency on-call. The ambulatory work consists heavily of lameness/sports medicine as well as the overall health of our patients. During the busy season, the work day is routinely 9-11 hours long plus emergencies. In the off-peak seasons the days are likely to be between 8-9 hours. Anytime there are hospitalized patients, the intern is required to assess and perform treatments and bandage changes before leaving for ambulatory appointments for the day. The majority of the interns' time is spent on the road working side by side with a senior clinician until the intern is ready to take on appts/emergencies with decreased supervision. Emergency on-call is a significant part of the internship experience.
Other than working for 3H Equine Hospital and Mobile Veterinary Services, the Raleigh area has so much to offer to ensure a great work-life balance. Living in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill means having access to cultural facilities like the Durham Performing Arts Center, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Contemporary Arts Museum and the North Carolina Symphony. Meanwhile, cafes and bars around the area's university campuses are enjoyed by students and residents alike. More than 20 craft breweries have made the region their home, further improving a growing food scene. Also, the area has the most live music venues in North Carolina. This family-friendly area also has a children's museum, 200-plus parks and a 152-mile greenway system for safe biking and hiking. Raleigh and Durham is a great place for sports fans, with college athletics and professional hockey, soccer and baseball teams.
