The Piedmont Equine Practice, located in prime Virginia horse country, is seeking two hospital specialists (ACVS, ACVIM, ACVECC) to join our team. The program and practice are well established (17 years and 27 years respectively). We currently have an ACVS boarded surgeon with 17+ years of experience. The three specialists will share all duties including coverage of elective and emergency medical and surgical cases both in and out of hours. Scheduling will be flexible based on areas of interest, with a strong focus on support of healthy work-life integration. The ideal candidates will have an interest in emergencies, an established or developing skill set in a complementary elective field, and the ability to be a part of a collaborative, collegial team. Mentorship can be provided.
Piedmont Equine has a diverse caseload of primarily English performance horses including fox hunters, show jumpers, show hunters, eventers, dressage, polo ponies and steeplechasers. The clientele in Northern Virginia is affluent and well educated, and they seek gold standard medical care for their horses. We see both internal and external referrals from veterinarians in the surrounding area.
Piedmont Equine employs 10 ambulatory veterinarians with a focus on sports medicine, general practice supporting the athlete, and geriatric practice. Several of the DVMs have acupuncture and chiropractic training. One is currently pursuing ACT specialty training. We have local, readily available board-certified ophthalmologist support. The practice is directly supported by a robust rotating intern and ambulatory fellowship programs as well as 24/7 technical/assistant support (includes 3 LVTs). There are four interns this year, and three secured for next year. Our facility features 13 stalls and 2 isolation stalls with several overflow stalls. We have multiple large treatment areas and an extensive area for lameness work ups.
The clinic is equipped with digital radiology (with new overhead gantry) and (new) ultrasonography, shockwave therapy, 1m and 3m endoscopy, nuclear scintigraphy, cone-beam standing CT, in-house laboratory, regenerative medicine, and newly purchased dental equipment. Surgical equipment includes a recently updated arthroscopy unit and Tenex. The owners of the practice have a history of investing in equipment to improve patient care or expand the services offered. There is the opportunity to expand the elective surgical caseload; orthopedics, dental/sinus surgery, and laparoscopy are possibilities being considered. The internal medicine elective caseload is also available for expansion.
Northern Virginia has a wealth of natural, cultural, and business resources. Washington, D.C. is one hour to the east. Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains are 40 minutes to the west. Museums, Civil War battlefields, wineries, breweries, shopping, hiking, and fishing can be found close by. For the discerning equestrian, there are 7 fox hunts within the practice area, numerous horse shows and events within an hour’s drive and multiple international level instructors available to provide lessons in varied disciplines. There is truly something for everyone, with the economy providing opportunities for spouses/partners to find well paid employment in most any field of work.
A competitive salary is offered and will be commensurate with experience. An emergency fee will be paid on after-hour emergencies. Team-based profit sharing will be considered. A signing bonus and relocation assistance will be negotiated.
