Kopec Veterinary Associates is looking for a motivated, collaborative veterinarian to grow our team!  We are offering a 1-year internship, with the goal of supporting your transition from student to independent doctor.  This position also has the potential to continue on as an associate veterinarian following the completion of the internship year.

Our goals for the 2024-25 internship program include:

• To foster confidence, independent thinking, and problem-solving strategies while providing a broad exposure to general equine veterinary medicine.
• To ensure a strong foundation of skills, as well as encourage development of further skillset in your area(s) of interest.
• To provide a safe and comfortable environment for sharing thoughts and ideas.
• To build inter-personal communication skills, develop techniques for handling high-stress situations, and provide a template for loving your profession and embracing its lifestyle.

• 5-day workweek for internship, 4-day workweek for all associate veterinarians
• Daily ride-alongs rotating between staff veterinarians, graduating to seeing select routine appointments to build confidence and independence.
• Emergency duty - 2 nights/week, every other weekend while intern triages emergencies with staff veterinarian until confidence is established. Once seeing emergencies independently (with backup doctor available for consultation), then 1-2 night/week, every 3rd weekend.
• Foaling duty - Separate from ER duty.  All in-house foalings attended by veterinarian and assistant.  Intern fills assistant role for 3 foalings, then assumes role of attending veterinarian.  A backup doctor will be available, if needed.  1-2 nights/week, every 3rd weekend from January-June.
• In-house - work with staff veterinarians to formulate breeding plans, routine healthcare, reproductive and neonatal management and treatment plans, as well as triaging emergencies.
• Doctor rounds - Informal case and journal article discussions take place in the truck with staff veterinarians, and are related to active/ongoing cases, or seasonal timeliness.  Intern encouraged to take initiative in determining topics.
