Bastrop Veterinary Hospital is a privately owned, mixed animal, veterinary clinic in the greater Austin Area. Externships are available year round. Priority will be placed on 4th year students at AVMA accredited schools, but other years are welcome to inquire. We are looking to hire an additional veterinarian as well, so there is a potential for an externship to turn into a permanent placement for post-graduation. 4VM externs can receive housing arrangements if needed.

We are a 7 doctor practice that is 70% small animal, 30% large (mostly food animal/small ruminant), with some exotics/pocket pets. We have ultrasound, digital X-ray, in house lab work, hydraulic cattle chute, cattle tilt table, truck for house/farm calls, equine stocks, padded equine room, hydraulic power float, and more. Multiple small animal referral clinics in the Austin area, equine/bovine specialty 15 miles away in Elgin, Texas A&M is 1hr 15min.

Bastrop is located 30 miles southeast of Austin and is considered part of the Greater Austin Metropolitan area. Two beautiful state parks are close by with opportunity for outdoor fun. With Austin nearby, you are a short drive away from food and fun. VOTED BEST OF BASTROP several years in a row! We have also had accolades from other local communities including BEST OF ELGIN. Our hospital is conveniently located off highway 95, 21, and 71.
