The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University seek candidates for the prestigious full-time Tenure System (TS) faculty position as the Mary Anne McPhail Dressage Chair in Equine Sports Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will lead and enhance programs in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation with emphasis on the sport of dressage, specifically by:
The Mary Anne McPhail Chair is a prominent position within the College of Veterinary Medicine that serves as a catalyst for enhancing collaborative research and graduate / post-graduate training with other departments as well as nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in the sport of dressage and their research program will include work that applies directly to the dressage horse. The offer will include a competitive startup package, laboratory facilities (including use of the Mary Anne McPhail Equine Performance Center), and annual discretionary funding from the Mary Anne McPhail Endowment.
The successful applicant’s role will encompass clinical service, education, and research/scholarly activity. The amount of time dedicated to each of these endeavors is flexible and will be geared toward the applicant’s interests, strengths, and qualifications. Tenure system appointments require more time dedicated to independent and collaborative, externally funded research, with less time devoted to clinical service. We seek to enhance existing collaborations and build on research strengths including locomotion/lameness and rehabilitation, biomechanics, bone biology and arthritis, obesity/endocrinopathies and performance, and horse-rider interactions. The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (LCS) is educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, conducting research that improves the lives of animals and humans, and providing the finest clinical services available.
Our diverse faculty focuses on areas ranging from dairy, food animal, and specialized equine services to intensive research and student training.
