The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University seek candidates for the prestigious full-time Tenure System (TS) faculty position as the Mary Anne McPhail Dressage Chair in Equine Sports Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will lead and enhance programs in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation with emphasis on the sport of dressage, specifically by:

1. Conducting leading-edge research that addresses important questions related to health and athletic performance of dressage horses and informs horse owners, riders and trainers engaged in relevant disciplines.
2. Communicating research findings to the equine community in a timely fashion via publications, presentations, and other forms of information dissemination. 
3. Providing graduate and post-graduate training to the next generation of equine sports medicine professionals and the opportunity to contribute to teaching in the professional veterinary curriculum.
4. Collaborating with scientists and clinician scientists within the MSU community and externally to improve the health and wellbeing of dressage horses.

The Mary Anne McPhail Chair is a prominent position within the College of Veterinary Medicine that serves as a catalyst for enhancing collaborative research and graduate / post-graduate training with other departments as well as nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in the sport of dressage and their research program will include work that applies directly to the dressage horse. The offer will include a competitive startup package, laboratory facilities (including use of the Mary Anne McPhail Equine Performance Center), and annual discretionary funding from the Mary Anne McPhail Endowment.

The successful applicant’s role will encompass clinical service, education, and research/scholarly activity. The amount of time dedicated to each of these endeavors is flexible and will be geared toward the applicant’s interests, strengths, and qualifications. Tenure system appointments require more time dedicated to independent and collaborative, externally funded research, with less time devoted to clinical service. • DVM/VMD (or equivalent) with a renowned record of research accomplishment in the field of equine sports medicine applicable to the dressage horse, and a plan for continued scholarly and creative growth.

• A demonstrated commitment to graduate student education and mentoring

Desired Qualifications

• Diplomate status with emphasis on equine performance in an appropriate specialty college such as the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, or an equivalent specialty certification.
• An earned PhD in an appropriate field is also desired.  
• Evidence of commitment to promoting open science principles and ensuring the highest level of research rigor and reproducibility
