The Veterinarian is involved in diagnostic and regulatory veterinary work in the control and eradication of contagious and infectious diseases in livestock, poultry and swine or those communicable to man through an animal host. The Veterinarian oversees livestock markets, sales, auctions and shows, and all rules and regulations applicable to those venues as well as all state and federal rules and regulations involving livestock. The Veterinarian is responsible for program disease efforts in the territory primarily, and throughout the state in general, including knowledge of the cooperative agreements and implementation of state and federal disease programs, tracebacks and education and outreach efforts, as well as other duties as necessary. Placing and releasing quarantines, investigating possible foreign animal diseases reports, investigating potential rabies exposures and follow-up are routine responsibilities. Oversight of livestock issues at state and regional fairs, in cooperation with the Aedin's Law efforts of the Emergency Programs Division of NCDA&CS, is included in work duties. The Veterinarian is responsible for compliance issues with rules and regulations, including but not limited to EIA inspections and proper disposal of dead animals.The Veterinarian is also responsible for maintaining records, expense vouchers, travel logs, itineraries and time sheets as directed for themselves as well as direct and oversee the activities, responsibilities and office duties of three (3) Animal Health Technicians the Veterinarian supervises. This position also requires frequent interaction and cooperation with other regulatory officials from local, state and federal agencies, local and state public health officials, as well as livestock producers, market operators, and other stakeholders involved in animal agriculture in North Carolina. Work territory includes the entire state with focus on counties of Anson, Bladen, Brunswick, Cabarrus, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Union. These focus counties within the territory are subject to change based upon need. **Must live in, near, or be willing to relocate to Anson, Bladen, Brunswick, Cabarrus, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Union Counties, NC.** **This position requires travel. A state vehicle and gas card are provided.**
