Additional Information:
We offer the opportunity for equine-focused students to experience working in a busy private equine practice with medical, surgical, and ambulatory services. We also hope to evaluate potential intern candidates.
Our externship program officially began in 2003. We have had veterinary students come to visit our Salinas location from forty different schools across the United States and thirteen other countries. We are a private equine hospital in Salinas, California with an additional northern hospital on the San Francisco Peninsula (based out of Menlo Park, CA). We see all disciplines of horses -- hunter/jumper, dressage, western performance, and three day eventers -- and provide advanced diagnostic imaging (such as ultrasound, x-ray, endoscopy, gastroscopy, bone scan, and CT). In Salinas we have 10 veterinarians on staff, including board certified specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, ABVP, and Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Chiropractic and acupuncture services are also offered.
Positions Available: Two in Salinas. On site accommodations.
Availability: Year Round. There is a limit of a two week externship during the busy season, but one month externships are available December through May.
Externship Responsibilities: Shadow doctors and interns. Business hours and after hours treatments and emergencies
Requirements:
1. Third or fourth year veterinary student with an equine focus. Horse handling experience.
2. AVMA PLIT or equivalent.
