Myhre Equine Clinic's team approach allows interns the unique opportunity to work closely with the clinic's expert veterinarians, experienced veterinary technicians, consultants, and farriers. We provide interns with comprehensive training in equine medicine and surgery, advanced diagnostics, emergency and critical care, and ambulatory services. We also provide referral services for local veterinarians. Expert guidance is available, encouraging interns to gain valuable hands-on experience to develop their skills and expand their knowledge base. Interns assist with out-patient and elective procedures, care and treatment of hospitalized patients, surgeries, and emergency treatments. Interns can expect to see a diversity of patients, including English hunter/jumper, eventing, dressage) and Western (reining, rodeo, pleasure, competition horses, racehorses (TB and STB), driving, drafts, and recreational horses.
At Myhre Equine Clinic, there are approximately 20+ out-patient cases per week and 200 emergency-hospital cases per year, with an average of 8+ in-patients per day (during the busier season(s)). The clinic employs routine use of lameness evaluations and diagnostic imaging to include digital radiography, ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, and a new Esaote MRI with large view and capable of doing standing and down MRI's.
Myhre Equine Clinic provides one surgical suite with two well-padded induction/recovery stalls, treatment room with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment (e.g., diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, Game Ready, shock wave, endoscopy (needle-scope, etc.), Digital radiology, nuclear scintigraphy, standing MRI, an in-house laboratory with PRP/IRAP equipment, pharmacy (in-house and online), 20+ in- and out-patient stalls, and two colic stalls, a mare and neonatal unit, and three isolation stalls, all with video monitoring capability.
The responsibilities of an intern at Myhre Equine Clinic include the daily treatment(s) of in-patients, assisting primary clinicians in out-patient and lameness cases, surgical cases, advanced imaging of patients, and with rotating [shared] after-hours emergency coverage and in-patient treatments.
It is highly recommended and encouraged that applicants participate in a minimum 2-week-duration externship in order to gain a better understanding of our facility, its personnel, and what we offer clients and patients, and for us to meet and interact with applicants prior to the selection process. All applicants are required to be a graduate of an AVMA-approved (or equivocal) veterinary institution and be eligible for licensing in the United States (New Hampshire in particular). We request a letter of intent, resume or curriculum vitae, three professional references, and official school transcripts, as application for our internship positions.
