Genesee Valley Equine Clinic is a multi-doctor ambulatory practice providing experience through a great variety of cases. Work that is not done on farms is done in our clinic, which has a treatment area, stocks, riding ring for lameness evaluation, padded stall for doing minor surgeries, as well as 8 stalls for hospitalization. Practice is well equipped with ultrasound, DR, gastroscope, endoscope, shock wave, therapeutic laser and motorized dental tools.
A GVEC externship offers a wide range of exposure to various aspects of equine practice. We strive to provide a safe, positive learning experience with many opportunities to discuss cases and ask questions. Students will ride out on ambulatory calls with each of the practice veterinarians. To obtain the maximum educational value from the externship, the student should be available to go with the DVM on call on evening and weekend emergencies.
We accept one student at a time throughout the year. Third and fourth year students are invited to apply for a one - two week externship; first and second year students can apply for a one week externship.
Housing is available at no cost in the clinic lounge area. Please be aware that privacy in this area is limited. A futon, full bath, laundry facilities, and basic kitchen (microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator/freezer) are available in the lounge.
Must be enrolled in an accredited school of veterinary medicine.
Must have proof of health insurance coverage.
