Established in 1972, Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center is one of the foremost equine referral clinics in the world. Our staff has played a pioneering role in the advancement of veterinary medicine, and strives to develop and refine many of today’s equine treatment procedures and techniques.

Over the last 30+ years of our internship program, over 100 veterinarians have come through the program and gone on to contribute significantly to the advancement of equine veterinary medicine. Our competitive Internship Program offers recent veterinary graduates the opportunity to work with our staff and experience equine veterinary medicine at its finest.  Applicants are selected from the most prestigious veterinary schools in the country and around the world. 

Our Intern veterinarians manage the medical care of our critical patients, facilitate the day-to-day operations of the clinic and help our staff with the daily appointment caseload. Our intern veterinarians live on the property and work through an intense yearlong program. At the end of that year, these individuals will have refined and deepened their diagnostic, surgical and technical skills and their understanding of equine medicine. Many of our Interns have already visited the clinic during scheduled Externships and many of our veterinarians currently on staff stayed after completing their Internship. Others went on to successfully apply and complete residency training at veterinary schools and are now highly respected specialists in their fields.

Alamo Pintado, family owned and oriented for 50 years, strives to promote and protect the proper mix of work and time off. The doctor staff is currently made up of veterinarians that have worked here from 40 years down to 4 years with most in the over 20-year employment category. Our hospital provides 24/7 service to our local area as well as a wide referral base in central and southern California. The state-of-the art hospital campus has a full surgery suite, ICU and neonatal unit, helical CT, Siemens large bore 1.5 tesla MRI, Hallmarq standing MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, lameness motion detection system, ultrasound, digital radiography, endoscopy, shockwave, therapeutic laser, water tred mill and many other features. The central coast and the Santa Ynez Valley have various outstanding offerings for recreational outdoor activities and equestrian events, We are located 30 miles from a moderate sized airport in Santa Barbara, near two community colleges and two universities that offer many cultural and educational opportunities. Our climate is warm semi-arid with nearby ocean beaches, low lying mountains full of hiking trails, campsites and a nearby lake.
