Sport Horse Referral Practice in the Vancouver region of beautiful British Columbia seeking enthusiastic, motivated equine veterinary interns for the upcoming year beginning June 1. We have a full service hospital with a standing MRI unit and two veterinarians certified in Chiropractic and two in Acupuncture.
This full time position will give you an opportunity to work in our hospital beside two different enthusiastic ACVS Boarded Surgeons who love to teach, as well as giving you lots of time on the Ambulatory side of the practice with 4 different experienced practitioners. Our philosophy is a strong mentorship program coupled with hands on skills and horsemanship. Our goals for you coming out of our program is to feel comfortable in all aspects of Private practice with a strong knowledge in handling a variety of cases and clients in different ways.
Our caseload is predominantly English Sport horses and Western Performance horses and all the problems associated with them. We are the largest referral practice in British Columbia and we serve a large number of horses in a very equine dense area. There are several large horse shows in our region which include hosting the Nations Cup in May/June.
Internship Duties: Assist Veterinarians with daily case workup and management and be responsible for cases while in the hospital. You will be given the opportunity to learn anesthesia by one of our Veterinarians as well as assist during surgical procedures. You will perform a wide range of procedures from nerve blocks, joint injections, radiographs, ultrasounds etc while under the direct supervision of our experienced Veterinarians. On the road you will see a variety of cases and be involved in the evaluation, planning and decision making process of all cases.
Philosophy of Internship: At Paton and Martin we offer a team approach, mentorship philosophy. We provide an opportunity to work alongside ALL of the Veterinarians in our practice in the hospital as well as in an ambulatory setting. Cases will be worked up and managed together. We encourage and allow a very hands on approach to learning brought about by motivating the student to want to learn more. Client communication will be done together and case discussions will ensue on an as needed ongoing basis. You will be provided the opportunity to follow complicated cases from the field to the hospital as the majority of our cases are handled from start to finish within our practice. It is a unique opportunity to be able to see a wide range of practice with 6 very different personality types and experiences. You will also be exposed to a wide range of clientele as well.
Must be able to obtain a work permit in Canada (This is easily obtained for N. Americans)
Graduate of an AVMA or CVMA accredited Veterinary School
and/or passed the NAVLE
Able to obtain a British Columbia Veterinary License is preferred but not required
