The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for two faculty positions in Field Service (Food Animal emphasis) in the Academic Clinician Track. The New Bolton Center Large Animal Campus is located in Chester County, 30 miles southwest of the Philadelphia main campus, within a highly active agricultural region of Pennsylvania and the tri-state area. Our practice serves a diverse population of food animals, including cattle (beef and dairy), small ruminants, and swine.

Responsibilities will include clinical service, teaching, and school citizenship. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the clinical and academic program of the Field Service section, including didactic and laboratory teaching of pre-clinical students, clinical teaching of veterinary students, and training and supervision of interns and residents. Some clinical work within the New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals may also be possible. The Academic Clinician Track does not carry an expectation for research, although participation in collaborative research projects is valued.

The purpose of these positions is to provide clinical service and clinical teaching of veterinary students through daily practice of ambulatory care including, but not limited to, preventative medicine and primary care of food animals (production and companion) with a focus on, or special interest in, sheep and goats. The faculty member will be expected to participate in after-hours clinical coverage in rotation with other members of the service. New Bolton Center provides a vibrant academic community with exceptional opportunities for interaction with a wide range of Large Animal board-certified specialists, house officers, and researchers. Consultation with clinicians in the New Bolton Center Hospital is readily available and welcomed. Faculty members have the ability to utilize the New Bolton Center Marshak Dairy, a 200-cow facility, for clinical and laboratory teaching and are encouraged to interact with our Center for Stewardship Agriculture and Food Security School citizenship is anticipated to include participation in various Food Animal-related student activities and Clubs (e.g. Food Animal Club), student chapters of AABP (Bovine Practitioners), and AASRP (Small Ruminant Practitioners); as well as mentorship of students, interns, and residents. Participation in the academic community through service on Departmental, School and University committees is also expected.

New Bolton Center is located on 700 rolling acres in beautiful Chester County, Pennsylvania. The campus is only 35 miles from Philadelphia, combining the advantages of a rural setting with those of a nearby major metropolitan center.

Qualifications: 1) DVM/VMD or equivalent degree and experience with production and companion food animals such as beef and dairy cattle, sheep and goats, camelids, and swine. 2) Eligibility for licensure in PA, MD, and DE.

Large animal board certification or eligibility for certification (for example, in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, or Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Emergency and Critical Care) with an emphasis in food animals is desirable but not required.
