Philosophy of Internship: The goal of our internship is toprovide interns with a high quality experience whichbalances in-hospital, ambulatory and academic veterinarymedicine. Interns will have the experience and knowledge tobegin a career in private equine ambulatory practice orpursue residency in a variety of fields upon successfulcompletion of the program. The internship provides theveterinarian with an equivalent of approximately 5 year’sworth of private practice experience. Our internshiptailors mentorship towards the professional goals of theindividual to help them succeed in their personal goals.Interns acquire knowledge through diligent research ofcases that come through the hospital and out in the field.At the conclusion of the internship, veterinarians areproficient in clinical skills (nasogastric intubation, IVcatheterization, abdominal ultrasound, abdominocentesis,regional limb perfusion, diagnostic anesthesia, intraarticularinjection, uterine lavage, neonatal care andrestraint), evaluation of the first opinion and referredequine acute abdomen, common equine emergencies, fieldanesthesia, inhalant anesthesia, client communication, andmuch more. We provide guidance and active training sointerns leave Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center preparedfor a successful career in equine medicine.
