Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery’s Weatherford Division is seeking qualified applicants for an Equine Internal Medicine Surgery Fellowship from June 2023 through May 2024, working under the direct supervision of an ACVIM Board-Certified Internist.

ESMS is a large and growing 100% equine practice. Our referral hospital is state-of-the-art, employing ten veterinarians, including ACVS Diplomats, an ACVIM Diplomat, and providing 24-hour emergency, critical care, and surgical services.

ESMS utilizes the latest technologies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, computerized tomography, digital radiology, gas anesthesia, ESWT, Stem Cell & IRAP, digital ultrasound, 1-meter & 3-meter video endoscopy, in-hospital laboratory, etc.  We have an excellent team, including several RVTs and a large and well-trained support staff. 

The Fellowship is an opportunity to focus on the various challenges of equine internal medicine in a fast-paced private practice setting. The Fellow will gain in-depth knowledge of disease processes and principles of treatment, and hands-on experience in diagnostic techniques and interpretation.  The Fellow will participate in routine daily in-patient evaluation and care, and elective medicine appointments and emergency duties under the direct supervision of the Internist at the Intensive Care Unit.

The objective of the Fellowship is to gain practical knowledge and experience with critical patient evaluation and stabilization, ultrasonography, endoscopy, fluid therapy, antimicrobial therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, all under the direct supervision of the Internist.  The Fellow will gain experience with admitted cases, including neonatal foals, broodmares with post-foaling complications, high-risk pregnancies, and horses with diseases of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, nervous, and endocrine systems. Along with emergency, elective, and intensive care patients, the Medicine department offers routine foaling management of 60-100 mares per season.

Our Weatherford Division is made up of 5 veterinarians including three board certified surgeons. We have three intern veterinarians, 2 fellow veterinarians and over 20 equine technicians/assistants. Facilities include a cutting-edge critical care/intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, hospital with 6 exam rooms, a surgery suite with two induction/recovery stalls, hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, computerized tomography, and over eighty stalls for hospitalization.
