Avon Animal Hospital is looking to add two full-time associates to expand our equine team. Candidates should be comfortable with general practice such as dentistry and emergency care. Beyond skills, we are looking for veterinarians with ambition, and a desire to help grow our practice with individual interests and new ideas. Additional expertise such as acupuncture and chiropractic are a plus! We value integrity, initiative, communication skills, and of course, a sense of humor. We strive to stay on the cutting edge of standards of care and value continuing education for our doctors.
We offer in clinic and equine ambulatory services including preventative, wellness and general medicine, dentistry, neonatal foal care, advanced reproduction, digital imaging, gastroscopy, endoscopy, elective surgery, sports medicine, regenerative therapies, pre-purchase examination and 24/7 emergency care.
Our hospital has a spacious equine treatment area with stalls and stocks. There is also a padded induction/recovery stall for elective surgical procedures and an in-house lab. Outside, there are paddocks with run-in sheds and an area for lameness evaluation. Our mobile units are fully equipped for ambulatory service and the call radius is approximately 30-60 minutes from the hospital.
Our equine clientele is well educated and our patients include performance horses of nearly every discipline, and a variety of pleasure and backyard horses.
Our senior equine veterinarians include Dr. Paul Johnston and Dr. Jeannine DeLuca. Johnston is a 1983 graduate of Ontario Veterinary College. He completed a large animal ABVP Medicine Residency at Purdue University and earned board certification in Equine Theriogenology. Dr. DeLuca graduated from Purdue University in 1995 and completed an ABVP Medicine Residency at the Atlantic Veterinary College. She has several publications on topics in neonatal medicine. Both Doctors have years of practical experience, have mentored numerous veterinary students and are members of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
Both doctors are excited to collaborate with and to integrate another experienced veterinarian as part of the team. There is also room to mentor a less experienced but highly motivated veterinarian. We encourage diversity and have the potential to expand in new directions. We always strive to maintain an enjoyable and professional atmosphere.
Avon Animal Hospital was founded in 1994 and is located in Windsor, a historic town in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. The area is the center for many equestrian disciplines, as well as an agricultural meca boasting numerous vineyards, apple orchards, an ever growing number of hops and great food! Windsor is also known for the world's highest tides and largest pumpkins, and for Long Pond, the birthplace of hockey! Quality of life and work balance are important, so for outdoor enthusiasts, hiking, biking, skiing, skating, and a new state of the art sports complex are all within minutes. The city of Halifax and the international airport are also only 35 minutes away. There is something here for everyone outside of work, it is a wonderful place to live.
