Comstock Equine Hospital is seeking a full-time associate veterinarian for our busy 7 doctor large animal practice. Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe, the area offers a wide variety of year-round outdoor activities including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, kayaking and more. The Reno urban scene has much to offer, with excellent dining, concerts, night life and more.
Duties would include general equine practice, preventative medicine, dentistry and emergency medicine with some lameness and small ruminant work. Caseload is roughly 50/50 ambulatory vs. in hospital. Veterinary staff includes 2 board certified surgeons (one is an owner), a board qualified internal medicine associate, 2 general practice associates, 2 owner veterinarians and an intern program with 2 interns this year. Support staff includes 7 licensed veterinary technicians, multiple assistants and an excellent reception staff. A four-day work week is optional. Emergency call is shared, with one week night per week, one weekend on call and one weekend as back-up each month. Our work environment is highly collaborative, with weekly doctor rounds, daily patient rounds and communication with all our team members.
Established in 1971, our practice, along with our sister practice, Great Basin Equine Hospital in Gardnerville, Nevada, serves as a referral facility for the Western Nevada region.
Compensation is competitive, with earnings based on experience and drive. Benefits include health insurance, dental and vision insurance, professional liability insurance, license fees, membership dues for AVMA, AAEP, Nevada VMA, a qualified retirement plan with match as well as continuing education/ education assistance. Vacation allowance starts at 10 days per year, with an additional day added each year of service up to 20 days annually.
