Colorado State University Equine Sciences program is seeking to hire a 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor Position as the Extension Equine Specialist and Legends of Ranching (LOR). This position provides the option of self-funding summer salary to augment the 9-months. The position will be responsible for: (1) extension and engagement activities tied to the CSU Equine Teaching & Research Center (ETRC) and the Equine Sciences Program, (2) management of the LOR Program horse training and annual consignment sale to facilitate student learning and engagement, and (3) generation of scholarly activity addressing issues important to the equine industry.Extension and industry engagement will result from dissemination of information and interaction with the equine industry, including county extension offices, the National Western Stock Show, the Colorado State Fair, and various youth and adult State and National equestrian events. Relationships should support local Colorado and national communities and economies and result in recruitment of students.Primary responsibilities regarding the LOR program include providing leadership, managing the horse sale, expanding the program as appropriate and encouraging involvement of a greater number of students, as well as working with existing faculty and staff to improve the experiential educational value of LOR. Logistics and operation responsibilities include coordination of horse consignments, training, sponsorship funding, social media communications, management of contractors and other sales support, and direction of an annual spring show and horse auction.Research and/or other scholarly activity is required. Disciplinary scientific research requirements for candidates are not specified, but expertise in equine nutrition, rehabilitation, and/or equine physiology are preferred. Experience in the design, conduction and dissemination of equine-related research is expected.
