Do you love working outdoors on the best show jumpers in the industry?  Sports medicine associate position available for motivated, enthusiastic assistant veterinarian looking to work on high end jumpers and dressage horses.  I enjoy teaching, so if you are interested in learning the nuances of lameness, ultrasound, and the advanced side of sports medicine, then this is a great opportunity. This is a two location job: most of the year is spent working in the Northeast: NY, NJ, CT (mid-April to December). During the winter, residency in Wellington FL for the Winter Equestrian Festival.  We will be in FL from Dec until mid April.  The sunshine is amazing for working outside on horses.  Skip the cold with us!  

Daily Routine:

1. Performing lameness exams with me, and flexing joints of horses for exams
2. Taking textbook grade X-rays and performing ultrasounds (intense training on both of these points)
3. Joint injections: Sedating, restraining, assisting and learning joint injections/US guided injections
4. Drawing/sending blood to laboratories, understanding which tests to run and why
5. Dispensing medications to clients
6. Filling out medication reports/coggins forms/international health certificates
7. Stocking the truck: maintaining inventory of drugs and supplies/tracking medication expiration dates, filling out the monthly controlled substances reports.
8. Driving to and from appointments—NY, NJ, CT most often. Some days we drive 4-6 hours depending on distance between clients. 
9. On call: In the northeast, we don’t have any night time emergencies, as we’re in different states each day except at horse shows. In Florida, you would assist the senior vets on call to gain experience and client trust.

Requirements:

—Must have completed an internship

—Non smoker

—It’s a very physical job!

—Must be able to carry heavy equipment (lifting 70 lb shockwave, xray machine, ultrasound) repeatedly in and out of the truck.

—Must be able to flex multiple joints on many horses for lameness exams.

—No personal cell phone use or texting while working

—No texting while driving company vehicle

—Clean driving record
