Additional Information:
The goal of the internship at BW Furlong & Associates is to provide up to three highly motivated and team oriented individuals with in-depth training in all aspects of ambulatory and referral equine veterinary practice with a focus on sport horses. Areas of exposure include lameness, internal medicine, surgery, routine & advanced imaging, reproduction, dentistry, ambulatory medicine, sport horse medicine & rehabilitation, and general pleasure horse practice. Mentoring is provided by a team of veterinarians, including five board certified specialists (two internal medicine specialists, a sports medicine & rehabilitation specialist, a theriogenologist, and a surgeon). Emphasis is placed on developing diagnostic skills which are complimented by more advanced diagnostic and imaging modalities, and then becoming comfortable with treatment options, procedures and outcomes.
Interns rotate in two week blocks which include internal medicine, surgery and ambulatory practice. Interns work with all veterinarians in the practice, and participate in evaluation and management of hospitalized cases as well as ambulatory emergency duty. Interns assume increasing case management, client communication, and solo ambulatory responsibilities throughout the year. Interns participate in a weekly journal club to facilitate group discussion regarding recent papers, interesting cases and new products or techniques.
The internship at B.W. Furlong & Associates provides a well-rounded experience for individuals interested in pursuing a career in high quality private practice or a residency in internal medicine, theriogenology, ophthalmology, surgery, sports medicine & rehabilitation or diagnostic imaging.
Benefits include housing, on call compensation, health insurance stipend, paid vacation/continuing education days, as well as licensing and professional dues coverage.
Applicants who have completed an externship with our practice are given priority. Applications should include a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, transcript, three letters of recommendation and a current photograph.
