Rocky Mountain Equine Clinic is hiring immediately for an associate veterinarian. We are currently an equine-exclusive 2 doctor (1 practice owner, 1 associate) general practice located in the beautiful Colorado Springs region. We do 90% ambulatory farm calls (travel is limited to about 20 miles from the clinic address) and can hospitalize medical colics as well as accommodate haul-in appointments to the physical location. We have an indoor and outdoor arena and 6 stall barn with runs. We provide 24/7 emergency coverage to all our regular clients. There are two wonderful referral hospitals located within 2 hours of our location and we highly value our relationships with both.
We pride ourselves on providing high quality medicine to our equine patients and strive for excellent customer service. We practice in a competitive region with many other equine practitioners. Our quality of life is extremely important to us. To a degree, the associate can make their own schedule (we are currently seeing regular appointments 4 days each a week) and on-call will be split equally three ways. We do not have office staff, but can provide an assistant for the regular work week hours (M-F 8-5). We have one mobile digital radiograph unit and a mobile ultrasound (with abdominal, tendon, and repro probes) in the practice. Each vet has a dental float and equipment for use.
Competitive salary and emergency fees will be offered, commensurate with candidate’s experience. Colorado licensing fees, malpractice insurance, and a CE stipend are included. After 1 year of employment, a retirement matching program is offered. A work vehicle, work laptop (software system is Impromed), and cell phone are provided to the associate, this way you can turn them off when you are not working. Buy-in is a strong possibility for the right candidate.
There is housing available for rent which is attached to the clinic (separate entrance) on 40 acres. The home is one story, two-bedroom,one-bath with new radiant heat tile flooring with a two-car garage, and a hot tub. There is trailer parking on-site, and stalls/paddock available in the hospital should you want your horse(s) on site. There are multiple boarding facilities (a variety of equine disciplines) with indoor arenas within 10 miles of the house/clinic locations.
The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, have excellent communication skills with both our clients and our current veterinarians, and have good horsemanship skills. Ideally, they will have 2+ years experience working in a general practice, but new graduates and those that have completed an internship will be considered. A strong interest in lameness is preferred, but not required. Chiropractic/acupuncture is currently offered and a background in these skills would be a plus.
Colorado Springs is a beautiful fast-growing area located on the front range. The sky is sunny 300+ days a year and once you get accustomed to the elevation and the mountain weather patterns, you will never want to leave! There are countless hiking, camping, skiing, mountain biking, horseback-riding, etc opportunities locally and all over the state. Both of our veterinarians absolutely love living in Colorado and know you will as well.
Job Requirements include the ability to become licensed in Colorado, maintain this veterinary license in good standing, become accredited (to write eia/cvi), must be available to be on call 33% of the time, and perform all duties expected of an equine general practitioner.
