Midwest Equine at Illinois is a satellite clinic of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine functioning as a private practice. The clinic is located approximately 30 miles west of the CVM campus in Farmer City, IL. Our goal is to expose the applicant to routine cases commonly encountered in a primary care practice focusing on common presentations with practical solutions, providing exemplary customer service while practicing medicine in the best interest of the horse balanced with the client’s needs and expectations.
The position is focused on providing a mentored experience, preparing the applicant for an entry level position into private practice or ABVP – Equine Practice residency. Applicants will participate in daily ambulatory and outpatient clinic cases and will be expected to participate in after-hours and weekend on-call duties in a rotating schedule with clinician support. Academic support, i.e. journal club, intern topic rounds etc., will be provided by ABVP-Equine Practice, ACVS-LA, ACVSMR and ACVIM-LA diplomates in the University of Illinois CVM - Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine.
Caseload is comprised of preventative care, sports medicine and routine outpatient surgery. The clinic is equipped with digital radiography, digital ultrasonography, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy and in-house regenerative therapies including PRP and APS preparations. Advanced imaging modalities such as MRI and CT facilitated through University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Chiropractic evaluations and adjustment also offered.
Eligibility for Illinois licensure is not required for participation in this program; however, Illinois licensure and USDA accreditation are highly desirable. Intern candidates must have graduated from an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine or have successfully completed the ECFVG.
Due to financial issues related to prompt entry into this program, participants must be a citizen of the US, a US permanent resident (i.e. holding a “green card”), or other foreign national with employment authorization from US Citizenship and Immigration Services valid for and during the program’s period of proposed training without our provision of assistance, support or sponsorship in obtaining employment authorization. The intern must also be available to begin work on June 15, 2021.
The University of Illinois offers a complete benefits package with a reduced vacation benefit specific to these titles to allow for completion of the clinical duties required by the intern certificate.
Malpractice coverage and Illinois veterinary license are provided under the University of Illinois blanket plan for services provided for university clients only. Parking is available for a monthly fee.
The UIUC is an AA-EOE.
