Additional Information:
At Carolina Equine Hospital, we are dedicated to providing innovative comprehensive veterinary care, exceptional service and education. Our team of experienced professionals includes five senior veterinarians and an enthusiastic support staff that seek two new graduates every year for our internship program. We strive to provide a wide variety of equine experiences in a progressive and positive private practice setting where we emphasize a strong culture of teamwork, individual growth and organizational wellness. The internship provides opportunities to work side-by-side with each of our senior vets, both in-hospital and on farm calls, while gradually moving towards independent case management and autonomy.
The practice was founded in 2009, with the merger of our founders' individual practices and currently provides general and secondary level care to large animal owners of the Piedmont Triad area. Our caseload encompasses a wide variety of english sport and western disciplines as well as pleasure horses. We see approximately 30% sports medicine, 20% reproductive, 30% preventative medicine and dentistry and 20 % internal medicine/ophtho/neonatal. A significant lameness caseload is seen throughout the year. Spring is the busiest season with new foals and reproductive work (AI, shipped semen, ET).
Training and mentoring is available in all services offered, including:
-Dentistry: routine dental care, advanced extractions, and digital X-rays (intra-oral and standard views).
-Sports Medicine: digital radiography, ultrasound, shockwave, lameness locator evaluation, joint injection and biological therapies.
-Emergency care: colic, wound management, ambulatory triage and secondary level hospitalization.
-Equine reproductive services: routine breeding exams, artificial insemination, collection and semen processing, epididymal semen collection, embryo transfer, and assisted foaling.
-Internal medicine: resident Internal Medicine Diplomate on staff (advanced cardiology, neurology and oncology), gastroscopy, upper airway endoscopy, full laboratory equipment, SAA analyzer, and ECG equipment.
-Surgery: full surgical suite available, currently performing mostly musculoskeletal and reproductive surgeries.
-Alternative medicine: acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine.
-Ophthalmology: including slit lamp ophthalmascope and tonometry.
Please feel free to contact us for more information on the internship.
The position requires a strong commitment and hunger for equine medicine, a good sense of humor and a team-player attitude. On call commitment is 50% and hours may vary based on season. DVM/VMD degree from an accredited veterinary college, successful completion of the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam, and a valid NC veterinary license will be required.
