Alamo Pintado is seeking well qualified applicants for a one year equine hospital internship. We have 5 rotations which include: ICU, anesthesia, imaging, surgery and night ICU/emergency coverage. The imaging rotation includes radiology, ultrasonography, MRI, CT and nuclear scintigraphy. The night ICU is spent taking care of hospital cases with the night technicians and the primary staff doctors on duty. The ICU day rotation is spent in the medicine service department. Anesthesia and surgery are self explanatory.
We believe our internship provides an excellent opportunity for new graduates to become familiar with a busy referral practice and participate in all phases of the day-to-day operation of the hospital. Currently we do not have an active ambulatory component (rotation) included in this internship but in years past interns have been able to spend time in our field practice when time permits.
We have three boarded surgeons and one boarded internist on staff. We consult regularly with boarded radiologists for some of our advanced imaging modalities.
The array of patients we see is varied with a higher proportion of performance horses, race horses, western eventing horses and then a mix of other breeds and disciplines.
There is a large caseload that comes to Alamo from the surrounding breeding farms.
We request that all applicants be graduate DVM's.
We request three letters of recommendation and one general cover letter outlining your career goals.
We strongly encourage that you spend time at Alamo Pintado as an extern to have serious consideration for an internship.
The term of employment would be for one full year (twelve months) from start to departure date.
