They say “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Well, they would be wrong.
I have been trying to write the perfect job ad. Something that makes our practice more attractive than all the other practices out there that are hiring. Trying to think of that one more thing that will lock in the perfect associate. Maybe a little more money. Maybe the promise of a brand new vehicle. Maybe double the CE allowance. Maybe half the call.
I looked to a group of my peers, my mentors, my colleagues for how to write a great ad, and they said to let your personality shine through.
So I hope you can see me in this ad- I hope you see honesty, hard-work, and dedication to the equine profession. I hope you see someone who isn’t trying to dress up a position into something it is not.
But I also hope that you see a bright light for the future of equine practice. I hope you see a young mother who has built a successful equine practice from nothing. I hope you see opportunity like nowhere else. Opportunity for a rewarding career in a growing practice, where there is plenty of caseload to share, a collaborative environment, and a dedication both to the profession and to the ever chased and often elusive work-life balance of an equine veterinarian.
I had a longer ad written- one that describes our clientele, our practice demographics, and our equipment and facility. I can summarize. We have a fabulous client-base that will easily support a third vet. We have an excellent working relationship with the neighboring vet clinics. We have a basic haul- in facility and are working towards expanding our facility to a comprehensive equine hospital.
We are looking for someone who loves equine practice like we do. We want someone who finds fulfillment in helping horses be happy, comfortable and cared for, and establishing long-lasting relationships with each of our clients. We are looking for someone to actively contribute to the team effort of making Elm Creek Equine the greatest practice both for our clients and for the rest of our associates and staff.
We are flexible in terms of employment arrangements. We offer a generous compensation package both in terms of monetary value, but also all the standard extras such as a complete benefits package, paid time off for CE, CE allowance, flexible vacation days, shared on-call responsibilities, vehicle allowance, staff discounts, etc. We are actively working towards solutions to balance working with family, and have started the process of providing in-clinic childcare for our moms on staff.
Please get in touch by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by text or phone call at (204) 750-0737 if you would like to see the more detailed job listing. Elm Creek Equine is located approximately 60km west of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Going back to my first thought - if you’re going to work a few days in your life, you might as well work at something you love, with other people who love the same thing as you.
Additional job requirements include eligibility for licensing in Manitoba, a valid driver’s license, and fluidity in English.
