Philosophy of Internship: The internship at North Coast (Arcata, CA) provides the same focus on education as our internship at the main hospital in Penryn, CA with educational rounds and journal clubs every week. Interns evaluate and work on cases with specialists in surgery, internal medicine, sports medicine and critical care, but also gain experience seeing cases independently. This is an ideal internship for a new doctor planning a career in equine private practice. Doctors in this practice also provide services for small ruminants, but the majority of care is equine oriented. This program operates out of the hospital in Arcata, CA on the beautiful North Coast of California.
Internship Duties: Interns are responsible for the hospitalized patients as well as assisting with receiving of new cases with the supervising clinicians. Interns have rotating emergency duties with assistance from more senior doctors if needed. As compared to the internship at the Penryn, CA, this location has less training in anesthesia and ICU and a greater focus on general practice.
Additional Information: Application should include a current photo of the applicant, official transcript, three letters of recommendation, CV, and letter of intent. Applications should be submitted via email.
Prerequisite Application Process: Graduation from an accredited veterinary school and licensed in the state of California. All applicants should complete an externship at one of our hospital locations prior to application.
