Southwest Equine Hospital is seeking a team-oriented, collaborative, associate veterinarian to join our busy referral hospital and ambulatory practice in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Applicants should have 3+ years of equine ambulatory practice experience of have completed an internship that had a strong ambulatory emergency caseload.
Our general practitioners can either "do it all" or focus and build on their strengths. Our associate veterinarians provide both scheduled appointments and emergency services. We do not overbook appointments to allow for "quality over quantity" medicine, and also provide some flexibility for the inevitable emergency. Individuals interested in referral medicine / critical care often provide primary care for medical and surgical hospitalized patients with the support of board-certified specialists (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry). The mix of ambulatory and hospitalized caseload is excellent for veterinarians interested in pursuing ABVP (Equine) certification.
Southwest Equine Hospital is a well-established (30+ years) 100% equine practice and fully equipped. The facility has two spacious exam rooms, large OR with padded recovery stall, an 8 stall barn with video ICU monitoring, mare motel, large paddock turnouts and an arena for soundness exams under saddle. Equipment includes 4 ambulatory vehicles, 2 wireless DR units, 3 portable ultrasounds, shockwave, class 4 laser, regenerative therapies, video endoscopy, in-clinic periodontal unit and an in-house laboratory (Idexx). Advanced imaging (MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy) is available at nearby equine hospitals, with patients returning to SWEH for treatment and follow-up. Our patients are very diverse, from backyard companions to elite athletes. Our clients are generally excellent and value both their companions and competition horses, allowing us provide the quality of care we recommend.
Full-time veterinarians typically have a 4 work-week; Part-time employment is considered. Ambulatory / after-hours emergency duty is typically 30-50% for associate veterinarians. We believe in sharing clients within the practice, and our clients are used to seeing all of us. The practice-focused approach trains clients that it is okay for their usual veterinarian to have a day or weekend off- the world won't end. We don’t believe in burning our associates out- SWE has a “work-hard, play-hard” philosophy, and encourages employees to enjoy the boundless cultural and recreational activities available in Arizona year round.
