The philosophy of our intership program is to provide a new graduate the mentorship and hands on experiences needed to obtain a residency or excel in a private practice setting. We want our new graduates to learn about all facets of equine veterinary medicine including working with a team, handling daily finances, client communication in addition to becoming knowledgeable in diagnosing and treating all types of cases.
Interns will be in charge of monitoring and treating all hospitalized patients, taking in emergency cases during the day and night, after hours emergency anesthesia, seeing preventative care appointments and updating medical records. At EVH, we feel that it is important to learn on your own as well as under the close supervision of an experienced veterinarian. Interns are responsible for managing and supervising their own cases while always having the security of back up clinicians and surgeons for even the smallest questions or consultations.
All applicants must be a senior veterinary student in good academic standing at an accredited college of veterinary medicine. Students are expected to graduate on time and have obtained the DVM/VMD degree by the start of their internship. All candidates must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas and shall submit a letter of intent, CV and three letters of recommendation. Submissions can be hard copy or via e-mail. Early applications are encouraged. Applicants that have visited and/or spent time with an externship at the hospital will have an advantage in the selection process.
