The primary purpose of our externship program is to provide a learning experience for veterinary students. We expose the extern to a fast paced, high quality equine and large animal primary care and referral practice. We believe learning is done best through doing. Come prepared to get your hands dirty. Our equine division is a 45000 sq ft hospital with 3 treatment areas, 6600 sq ft lameness area, 2 surgical suites, 3 recovery stalls, pharmacy, lab, 88 stalls, 40 paddocks and isolation and critical care units. Our large animal division has 2 main treatment areas, an OB room, 29 stalls and 35 pens.
Externs are expected to help with morning and afternoon treatments, assist our intern(s), participate in appointments and elective surgeries during the day and help with emergencies after hours.
Interested students need to submit a letter of intent, current CV and dates available for externship. Please submit these requests to firstname.lastname@example.org . The supervising veterinarian will then contact the student to approve or deny the externship request. Students in any year of study at an AVMA accredited school is eligible. Students are required to have AVMA PLIT insurance.
