We are looking for an associate to join a two person sports medicine practice based out of Lexington, Kentucky but includes six months as the official show veterinarians for the Desert International Horse Park in Southern California during the fall and winter and three months for the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival in Traverse City, Michigan in the summer. The partners in the practice are each specialty boarded (ACVSMR and ACVAA) and happy to teach a recent graduate or support an associate with experience. We are practical horse people and looking for someone that loves horses and is passionate about doing the best for these athletes. Pay is commensurate with experience, we cover travel, housing and a vehicle during show circuits. This is an opportunity to work hard in beautiful locations but enjoy time off and have an opportunity for continuing education between circuits.
The applicant must be a horse person with the ability to handle horses, the ability to communicate with fellow workers, clients and horse caretakers, have an eye for lameness evaluation and interest in working up lameness rather than just treating. The applicant must be comfortable dealing with emergencies, must be willing to work six to seven days a week during horse show circuits, be willing to travel, willing to listen, and willing to teach veterinary students. The applicant must have at least one year of experience out of veterinary school in either an internship or private practice.
