Green Glen Equine Hospital is seeking an intern for 2020. The aim of the program will be to provide mentorship and to prepare a veterinarian for a career in equine practice while exposing them to a wide variety in caseload. We are a busy 5-doctor practice that sees everything from high-end performance horses to back yard pets.
The intern will rotate weekly between veterinarians to gain hands on experience with different types of cases. The intern will be introduced to running general anesthesia for elective procedures, routine health, medicine and lameness workups, ultrasound exams, gastroscopy and many more procedures. In order to gain proficiency with emergencies the intern will initially be on call every other night and 3 weekends per month with a staff veterinarian, and will then begin to see their own cases with backup available as they gain proficiency. Throughout the internship, mentorship will be available while gradually increasing independence and primary case management.
We have a busy ambulatory and hospital practice providing elective surgery. Sports medicine is a very common case type. Our doctors have varied interests and will help you gain exposure to surgery, lameness, medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture, reproduction. Time will be spent with our surgeon and other doctors as well as arrangements to work with a nearby theriogenologist as well.
Throughout the year, we hope the intern will develop into an independent and confident doctor ready to practice equine medicine or pursue further education. You will develop technical skills, communication skills, and real life experience to prepare you for a career in equine practice. We are here to help you learn and guide you.
Please bring lots of enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn and we will help you fulfill your goals.
We offer externships and encourage visiting for consideration for the internship but it is not a requirement.
Veterinary license and USDA accreditation in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
