Kentucky Equine Hospital is seeking motivated interns who are excited to experience a well rounded internship experience that includes ambulatory, hospital, surgical and reproductive experience in a small hospital setting that empowers our interns to learn to think and practice independently. We strive to practice high quality veterinary medicine with an emphasis excellent client and patient care.
Philosophy of Internship: To provide our interns with an opportunity to acquire new skills, fine tune established skills, and further their knowledge in various aspects of equine practice to help them become well rounded, highly competitive veterinarians whether they continue into a residency program or enter into ambulatory practice.
Internship Duties: Our interns’ main responsibility is front-line hospital and surgical patient care. As we assess your skills and provide additional training and proctoring interns will become responsible for more independent case management, ambulatory and emergency cases. You will provide daily examinations and treatments, and maintain medical records for hospitalized cases. Dr. Sutter has an active surgical case load and intern doctors scrub into surgical procedures and perform post surgical care to patients. You will assist our practitioners with radiology, anesthesiology, surgery, lameness, reproduction, laser, MRIs, nuclear scans, shockwave, pre-purchase exams, video endoscopy/gastroscopy, ambulatory medical examinations, referral cases, emergency cases, and laboratory testing. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the successful management of a private veterinary practice. Throughout your internship (within the scope of your competence and skills), you will share on-call and holiday coverage.
Practice Information: Our case load consists of 40% Lameness/Sports Medicine/Surgery; 40% ambulatory and Reproduction, and 20% Medicine. We are a full service hospital. Our services include but are not limited to: Digital Radiography, Digital Ultrasonography, Video Endoscopy/Gastroscopy, Nuclear Scintigraphy, MRI, Surgery (Emergency and Routine), Nd:YAG Laser, Shock Wave Therapy, Stem Cell Therapy, IRAP, Reproduction (Artificial Insemination, Semen Processing, etc.), Embryo Transfer, Foaling Assistance, Dentistry and Laboratory Services. We are also a critical care and referral facility.
Our internship duration is for one year and typically start in June and go to the following June.
