The goal of the internship is to provide 4 highly motivated individuals with an in-depth, one on one training in lameness, internal medicine, rehabilitation, imaging, surgery, reproduction, and dentistry while offering additional experience in ambulatory medicine, sport horse medicine, and pleasure horse practice. Mentoring is provided by 11 veterinarians, including a board certified medicine specialist and a board certified surgeon. Emphasis is placed on developing diagnostic skills using physical examination while becoming proficient in the use of ancillary diagnostics such as clinical pathology, digital radiography, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, and ultrasonography.
Interns rotate in two week blocks from medicine, surgery, ambulatory, and lameness/imaging. Interns are responsible for primary care and management of in- hospital cases, participation on ambulatory emergency duty, and assistance of all associate veterinarians.
