Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) provides leadership in patient care, education, clinical investigation, and scientific innovation and is one of the finest veterinary teaching hospitals in North America. As an extension of CUHA, the Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists’ (CRES) Hospital in Elmont, NY will provide state-of-the-art surgical, imaging, diagnostic, and rehabilitation services to enhance equine health. At CRES, veterinarians aspire to assimilate knowledge gained on all fronts – at the track, in the show ring, at the research bench, and in the hospital – to deliver paradigm-shifting veterinary medical care.
We currently have an opening for a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to serve in a 1 year term position. As a CRES LVT, you should be extremely independent, self-motivated, have a team-based approach and mindset, and be interested in working in an innovative and challenging environment that will an provide excellent experience with equine animals in all aspects of emergency and patient care. You will serve as a patient advocate for the owner to assure an optimal experience.
Our Technicians provide support and cross train as Receiving Technicians, Surgery Technician, as well as Anesthesia and Imaging technicians.

This position supports a hospital with 24/7 operations and although you will primarily be working days, you may also need to work weekends, evening/overnight shifts and holidays, on a rotating basis, due to business and staffing needs.

Required Qualifications: Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution, plus NYS Licensure or eligible to be licensed required. One to two years’ experience as an LVT, or other direct working experience with equine animals; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously while under pressure and paying close attention to details. Proficiency with patient tracking software. We seek a self-starter who is patient-centered, client responsive and community-minded. Must have excellent communication, team building, flexibility and organizational skills. As this is a very physically demanding job, applicant must have demonstrated ability to restrain large animals as well as the ability to jog horses multiple times daily; must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as the ability to kneel and remain in a steady position during procedures or treatments. Rabies vaccine and ongoing titer checks will be required and paid for by the clinic.
