The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track faculty appointment in Emergency Equine Surgery housed within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. This position will be responsible for receiving and assisting with elective and emergency cases admitted both during and after regular business hours and will provide 50% emergency coverage including in-house emergency after hours and weekend obligations. Clinical responsibilities will also include occasional non-equine large animal surgeries. Supporting house officers with emergency and elective cases and student teaching will also be expected.
Further duties involve instructing students in equine medicine and surgery, teaching surgical skills, didactic teaching, and laboratory teaching involving canine and feline patients. The successful candidate will also have a collegial, collaborative attitude and willingness to participate in all levels of technician, student, and house officer education.

Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Surgeons residency program is required on or before the first day of employment, however, individuals in their third year of the training program will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Schedule: Varied days including teaching duties. 5:00 pm – 8:00 am on-call and weekends for in-house emergency coverage to achieve a minimum 50% coverage responsibility. Morning rounds when indicated; some 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm in-house duties such as rounds and planning, teaching activities, etc. may be required.
