California Equine Orthopedics is offering an internship in equine sports medicine. The practice is referral-based and dedicated to lameness diagnosis, imaging, regenerative medicine and elective orthopedic surgery. The caseload covers a wide range of disciplines and breeds including racing, showjumping, dressage, Western performance and show Arabians, as well as pleasure riding horses. The internship is ideal for the candidate intent on pursuing a residency in equine surgery, sports medicine or imaging. It may also be suitable for a recent graduate interested in gaining practical experience in equine sports medicine. The intern will have the opportunity to become proficient in radiology, nuclear scintigraphy, MRI and ultrasonography with access to a boarded radiologist, internist and two boarded surgeons, one of whom is also boarded in Sports Medicine. The intern’s responsibilities would include: monitoring and care for in hospitalized patients, maintaining the medical records, performing anesthesia and assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The clinic provides access to alternative therapeutic modalities such as acupuncture, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), regenerative laser therapy (RLT) and biologic therapies. The practice stresses a team approach to case management and will provide the motivated intern with abundant learning opportunities. On-site housing is provided for the intern.
