Heritage Equine is hiring a night time veterinary assistant / foaling attendant for the 2019 breeding season. The applicant that will excel in the position is a self-motivated individual that has good time management skills, excellent horse handling skills, and prior experience with foaling.
Heritage Equine employs three veterinarians: one diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologist and one diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. We maintain a herd of approximately 500 recipient mares, provide foaling services for an average of 50 - 60 mares, and provide routine and advanced breeding services on approximately 200 mares in house each year. We also transfer approximately 350 shipped in embryos yearly.
Facilities include 106 stalls with a dedicated isolation unit as well as 4 climate controlled stalls. Also on site are three exam rooms with stocks, pharmacy, breeding laboratory and clinicopathologic laboratory. Diagnostic capabilities include: ultrasound, radiography and 1 and 3 meter portable video endoscopes.
Duties of the Night Veterinary Assistant include: supervision of mares foaling, performing overnight treatments and observation of hospitalized medical cases, as well as administration of oxytocin to reproductive patients. Other routine duties include assembly of embryo transfer kits, preparation of equipment for sterilization, and preparation of medications for both hospital and reproductive patients. A veterinarian is not on-site overnight but is available for consult, direct supervision and assistance as needed for patient care.
During the breeding season the shift is from 9pm to 6am and is 7 days a week from January 1st to mid July. There is opportunity for this to become a full time position with a daytime 8-5pm 5 days a week position during the off season. Compensation is based upon prior experience.
