Burwash Equine Services is a well established equine general and referral practice located close to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about equine reproduction, and who would be excited about maintaining our existing reproduction caseload as well as expanding our reproductive services. Board certified or board eligible theriogenologists as well as veterinarians with a special interest and experience in mare and stallion reproduction are invited to apply.
Our caseload is a varied mix of both western and English disciplines, and we are proud of our collaborative environment that encourages case discussion to facilitate optimal patient care. We have recently moved into a brand new facility consisting of a 12 700 square foot hospital with 3 private exam rooms, a full surgery suite with a client observation area and modern induction and recovery rooms that allow routine rope recovery, and a 12 stall hospital barn with isolation facilities, along with a 3360 square foot lameness and reproduction center. We are a part of the distributed veterinary learning community of the University of Calgary’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and host fourth year students for both general and therio specific clinical rotations. Our practice has a forty year history with an excellent reputation in reproduction, and we have a strong reproductive caseload including artificial insemination with both cooled transported and frozen semen, embryo transfer, stallion collection, and semen freezing. We are interested in expanding our reproductive offerings to include transvaginal follicle aspiration.
Our team currently consists of a tight-knit group of three experienced veterinarians and two interns. Applicants must be interested in seeing both in clinic and ambulatory cases in addition to their reproductive caseload. The position shares in the general emergency call rotation as senior backup for the interns. Ideal candidate would have been in clinical practice for 3-5 years, excel at client communication, and be proficient at invoicing and medical record keeping. Applicant must be motivated to improve the quality of care by being forward-thinking and willing to keep up with advancing technologies. As a practice, we are committed to improving our veterinarians’ work-life balance and general well-being and are welcoming of innovative and new ideas on how to achieve this for the team as a whole.
Calgary is a major Canadian city of over 1.2 million people, and is located less than an hour from Banff National Park, making it a fantastic place to live especially if you are interested in outdoor pursuits such as hiking, camping, and skiing.
