Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center (LBEMC) is located on 25 acres in the Sierra Foothills between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. We have a position (full-time or part-time) available for a veterinarian focused on large animal ultrasound. The position would provide ultrasound services for approximately 20 veterinarians within the practice in addition to outside referrals. Ultrasound evaluations are typically 50% internal medicine (primarily abdominal and thoracic) and 50% musculoskeletal. The majority of the ultrasound evaluations take place in the hospital, but some examinations are performed in the field.
LBEMC has a collaborative approach to veterinary medicine and we are looking for an individual that works well and integrates with all services (surgery, medicine, sports medicine, and critical care). There are significant opportunities for teaching veterinary students, interns, and associate doctors. Emergency duty is not required for the ultrasound position.
The hospital is starting an expansion in Fall 2018, but currently has approximately 25 regular stalls, 4 climate-controlled ICU stalls, 2 isolation barns, and 30 year-round paddocks. LBEMC performs both elective and emergency surgeries and has 4 digital x-ray systems, 5 ultrasound machines, 3 endoscopy units, and MRI capabilities.
The ideal applicant would have specific training in the areas of musculoskeletal, abdominal, and thoracic ultrasound. An interest in sports medicine would also be beneficial.
