The goal of our internship is to provide you with a quality experience which balances in-hospital, ambulatory and academic veterinary medicine. You will have the experience and knowledge to begin a residency program or a career in private equine ambulatory practice upon successful completion of the program. The internship will provide the you with an equivalent of approximately 5 years worth of private practice experience.
You will acquire knowledge through diligent research on the cases that come through the hospital and out in the field. We will provide you with guidance and active training so you can leave Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center prepared for either a residency or private practice.

The 3 intern rotation allows for a primary and a back-up intern on call per night; rotation schedule will be worked out between the intern coordinator and intern-mates. The primary intern on call with be responsible for intake of any in hospital emergencies and assisting in after-hours surgery as well as primary care of any cases coming in after hours on their shift. The back-up intern will be available to help if the primary intern is in surgery or otherwise occupied and to run anesthesia after hours. The third intern in the rotation will be off, allowing the interns to be primary and back-up on call every third day. Interns rotate weekend call every third weekend being primary or secondary.
