The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), Office of Surveillance & Compliance (OS&C), Division of Animal Feeds is seeking qualified applicants for a vacancy on the Nutrition and Labeling Team 1. This position can be filled by a variety of scientific disciplines including Veterinary Medical Officers, Animal Scientists, etc. and therefore the exact title of the position will be determined during selection. This position may be filled through FDA’s Staff Fellowship Program with an appointment up to 2 years with opportunity for renewal or through the General Schedule, again this will be determined at the time of selection.
The Office of Surveillance and Compliance (OSC) has primary responsibility for: compliance-related actions, post-approval monitoring, and animal feed safety. OSC monitors the safety and effectiveness of marketed drugs after they enter the market. Working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and State agencies, the Office monitors the occurrence of unsafe drug residues in meat, milk, and poultry products. OSC assures the safety of animal food by reviewing new animal food ingredients, providing oversight of the medicated feeds program, and providing oversight of the feed contaminants program. The Office coordinates enforcement actions against unapproved animal food and drugs that are on the market and that threaten public and animal health.
The Nutrition and Labeling Team 1 reviews data and information submitted or otherwise available to CVM regarding the intended use of food additives, GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) substances, and other substances intended for nutritional purposes in animal foods, such as new sources of, proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, and fatty acids. The team evaluates pet food labels for compliance with federal regulations and recommends any necessary modifications to label content or format.

The position is located in Rockville, Maryland and is available immediately. The salary range for this position is the GS-12 equivalent ($81,548 - $106,012) and GS-13 equivalent ($96,970 to $126,062), salary will be set based on experience, education, and budget.
