We are looking for an intern for our equine sports medicine practice in central North Carolina. A short term associate position would be considered. The position would include 3 months of riding with the senior veterinarian, progressing to increased primary care responsibilities. When the intern feels capable, the emergency calls will be shared with the senior veterinarian. Skills gained include:
*high quality primary care tailored to the needs of (mostly) very nice horses
*lameness examinations including moving and standing examination, nerve and joint blocks, digital radiography, ultrasonography, joint injections
*dentistry using hand or power tools, dental endoscopy
*case management and continuity allowing for development of excellent client comunication skills
*emergency skills including colic management, lacerations, eye diseases, lameness. Referral to nearby NCSU when needed.
Discussion of the position with former associates is possible. Salary is $32,000 per year and a$250 per month housing stipend. Veterinary dues and professional liability insurance will be paid by the practice. Two weeks of paid vacation and $1500 continuing education budget is included. North Carolina Veterinary License is required. Australian citizens will be considered for this position.
