Our practice is populated by wonderful veterinarians and support staff who operate in a positive and collaborative practice culture that embraces cooperation, teamwork, and support of each other. Past interns have been hired on as associates and can provide references.
Aspen Creek Veterinary Hospital has an opening for a one year mixed animal internship. Our practice services a diverse caseload with roughly 55% dog/cat, 42% equine, and 3% small ruminant, camelid, and pot belly pigs. This internship could be a 50:50 split between large and small animal, or could be tailored more to large animal/equine for the interested candidate, but applicants should be prepared to spend at least 35-40% of their time working on small animal cases.
Our equine caseload is a mixed population of backyard/pleasure horses and high end sport horse medicine. We have boarded equine veterinarians (ABVP and Chiropractic) who have 25+ years of experience and who enjoy mentoring and teaching. Although we treat emergencies and hospitalize/treat many critical care cases, our practice does not perform colic surgery. Interested applicants will obtain valuable experience in general practice, high end-dentistry, surgery, medicine, imaging, chiropractic, acupuncture, sport horse medicine, lameness workups and treatments, emergency/critical care and much more, but without the exhausting long nights of watching post-op colic patients or foaling out mares.
Our small animal caseload consists of high end clientele who expect and are willing to pay for the best care. Our practice, while rural, provides high end care expected in large cities and referral centers. The practice is loaded with the best technology and support staff, and we expect our veterinarians to provide the highest level of care. Our interns gain valuable experience in general practice, preventive medicine, advanced dentistry, emergency/critical care, and soft tissue surgery. We also have a veterinarian who is boarded in acupuncture. We also work with a local humane society for additional spay/neuter experience. Radiologists and orthopedic surgeons come in to perform ultrasounds and orthopedic surgery in-house.
Intern will be on-call 3 nights per week, 2 weekends per months. 3 day weekend off each month. Additional pay provided for after hours emergencies and intensive care monitoring. Intern will work under the direct supervision of other veterinarians until it is deemed that they can begin to see appointments and emergencies on their own. Then mentorship, backup and consultation will always be available by one of the senior clinicians.
Journal club and educational rounds are part of the education process.
Onsite housing provided and included in compensation package. Wake up and see elk and deer in your backyard!
Onsite visit required for all applicants.
Internship dates: July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018. (Start date can be flexible for the right candidate).
