Prerequisite Application Process: DVM at start of internship, requirements necessary for Colorado Licensure, National Accreditation, letter of intent, current photo, three letters of recommendation/resume/transcripts. Strong desire to be an equine practitioner.
Internship Duties: This is a rotating internship, involving experience in surgery, internal medicine, emergency management, and ambulatory practice. Interns will provide ambulatory service for clients including routine health care, acute lameness exams, reproductive work, dentistry work, medicine, lacerations, and colic workups. Interns have multiple opportunities to work with staff veterinarians on referral lameness exams and prepurchase examinations. As the surgery intern, he or she scrubs in all surgeries for that week, works with Dr. Devine, Dr. Rakestraw, Dr. Hill and Dr. Murray on lameness exams, and any other surgical cases that arise. Inrernal medicine cases are seen with Dr. Mullen. Each in house case is assigned an intern who is primarily responsible for the case and is overseen by a staff veterinarian.
