Brown Equine Hospital offers a largely varied assortment of equine cases including: medical management of non-infectious medical conditions, elective and emergency surgical procedures, and equine lameness. Under the guidance of two board-certified surgeons you will be involved in localizing and treating lameness on various equine athletes ranging from Standardbred racehorses to western pleasure Quarter Horses. There is a large caseload of elective surgical procedures (including arthroscopy, upper airway procedures, hernia repairs, enucleations, etc.). Additionally, the hospital provides 24 hour emergency coverage including (but not limited to): medical and surgical colics, lacerations, septic synovial structures, fractures and neonatal issues. A high level of mentorship is available with the opportunity to gain proficiency in both medical and surgical colic management, laceration repairs, joint injections, diagnostic blocking, performing and interpreting ultrasound, radiography, and upper airway endoscopy.
For those looking to pursue residency training, the large caseload lends itself to the creation of retrospective publications during your internship year.
Includes 1 week of paid vacation and 1 weekend off per month. A CE stipend is provided.
