The Park Equine Hospital Externship Program provides students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a practice dedicated to providing quality care to some of the most valued equine patients in the world. The program design provides the opportunity for students to experience all fields of equine care. It was created with the mission to find quality intern candidates, and to provide a platform for veterinary students to apply their clinical knowledge in a practical veterinary setting.
Externs rotate through medicine, ambulatory, and surgery. They assist technicians in setting up for admission of emergencies, as well as directly observe diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on patients. Externs are called in for emergencies, and are expected to participate in morning and evening rounds. Externs are placed at one of two of our clinic locations, in the heart of the Bluegrass.
Prerequisites for Externship: This program is recommended for veterinary students in their third and fourth year or recently graduated veterinarians.
Good horsemanship and basic veterinary technical skills are expected.
Students must stay a minimum of two weeks and may not exceed a maximum of six weeks. Housing will be provided. Exceptions made on a case by case basis.
Prospective externs must submit an official application, curriculum vitae, and letter of intent and must coordinate program details with the admissions committee at email@example.com. See website for application forms and instructions.
